"Allow Blocked Content" issue . . .

Although the problem is not a function of the Click-n-Shoot CD, we do know how to fix it. This issue has arisen from an update that Microsoft sent as an Internet Explorer security enhancement. This enhancement is the reason that you might suddenly getting warning messages concerning "downloading active content" when the CD used to work just fine!

To fix it, do the following:

1- Launch the Click-n-Shoot CD
2- Inside the Internet Explorer browser (not in the Click-n-Shoot window area but "above it") go to the top of the menu area and choose "Tools"
3- Next choose "Internet Options"
4- Next choose the "Security" tab at the top and make sure yours is set to "Medium" (click "Default" if you are set to "High" and it will automatically reset to "Medium) - don't forget to click "Apply" before going to the next step (assuming you had to make changes)
5- Next choose the "Advanced" tab at the top of the window
6A - Scroll down the right side of the "Advanced" section until you see the "Security" area, then make sure the box titled "Allow active content from CDs to run on my computer" is CHECKED
6B - Scroll down the right side of the "Advanced" section until you see the "Security" area, then make sure the box titled "Allow active content to run in files on my computer" is CHECKED
7- Click "Apply" and "OK"
8- Close out the Click-n-Shoot CD and restart
9- Your ready to start using it again!

They won't open I get and error code that says "a font contains a bad CMap/encoding"!This one is an easy fix. The version of Adobe that you have is outdated. It is version 3.0 (or older). All of the target files on the Click-n-Shoot CD will need Adobe 4.0 or newer to open. No need to worry, version 6.0.1 Adobe Reader is right on the Click-n-Shoot CD and is easy to install (less than 2 minutes!). This is the most common problem encountered by folks who use Adobe based products (the Click-n-Shoot CD or otherwise). To fix it, simply click HERE Don't forget to reboot when complete with the install. The best way to install the newest form of Adobe is to FIRST "unistall" the version you have on your machine. It's not absolutely necessary that you do so, but it is preferable.

They won't print in color or they only print some of the colors!

Only 2 things can cause the targets to print in Black & White when you did not intend for them to do so.

First, check the ink cartridge by attempting to print any document in color. If no documents can be printed in color or if only some of the colors appear, it's time to replace the ink cartridge.

Second, check the printers property dialog box (click "print" then look on the box that "pops" up for the button that says "Properties" click that button and you find a location to choose "Black&White" or "Grayscale" - if that box has a check mark in it, all targets will print without color (by the way, this is a great way to save money on expensive color ink!)

Last, check the level of black ink - this can be the most common cause of colors that do NOT MATCH the screen colors. Black color is a mojor component of almost ALL the colors of the targets on the Click-n-Shoot CD. Being low or out of the black color will impact the blues, greens, reds and other colors on the targets.

They are printing out smaller than they should be!

This is caused by a setting in Adobe Acrobat Reader. When you print anything using Adobe, it gives you the option of shrinking the size of the item on the document to ensure it all prints on one page. Check out the info below to get specific details on how to adjust this in YOUR version of Adobe Acrobat Reader®

They print out in "mirror image"- not like they look like on screen!

Only 1 thing can cause a target to print "Mirror Imaged" - this is a choice that is user selectable in many printers on the market today. If your targets are printing out in "Mirror image", you must have selected this within the "properties" box of YOUR printer's software. To uncheck that box (click "print" then look on the box that "pops" up for the button that says "Properties" all printers properties boxes vary by make and model but somewhere within this box is a check box for "mirror image" or "print reverse")

CD will NOT autorun (play by itself)

ISSUE: Turning on or off the Auto Run feature for CDs or DVDs so they do or do not start automatically after being placed in the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive.

CAUSE: The CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive will run automatically due to the "Auto Insert Notification" statement selected in Device Manager.

SOLUTION: Follow the steps below in order:

1- EASIEST SOLUTION - YOUR CD MIGHT NOT BE "TURNED ON" TO RECOGNIZE "AUTORUN"!
Turn on Auto Insert Notification
Right-click My Computer icon from the Windows desktop.
Select Properties.
Select the Device Manager tab.
Double-click the CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive.
Highlight the type of CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive by selecting the name with the left-mouse button and then selecting Properties.

Select the Settings tab.
Place a check mark next to Auto Insert Notification and select OK.
Select OK on the CD-ROM/DVD-ROM Properties screen.
If a system prompt is received to restart Windows, select OK. This will allow automatic starting of the CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive.

2- NEXT SOLUTION - YOUR WINDOWS BASED CD PLAYER SOFTWARE MAY BE CORRUPT!
If Auto Run does not run after enabling it by following the steps mentioned above. Reinstalling the CD player using the Add/Remove Programs option should solve the problem. To do this, follow the steps mentioned below.:
How to Remove the CD Player using the Add/Remove Programs option
Select Start/ Settings/ Control Panel, and double click the Add/Remove Programs Icon.
In the Add/Remove Programs Properties window, click the Windows Setup tab.
In the Components field, scroll down until you find the Multimedia icon and double click it.
In the Multimedia window remove the check mark in front of the CD player Icon by clicking it and press the OK button to confirm and leave this screen.
When back in Add/Remove Programs Properties window press the Apply button. The system will now update the installed components.
Restart the computer by selecting Start/ Shutdown/ Restart.
How to Install the CD Player using the Add/Remove Programs option
Select Start/ Settings/ Control Panel, and double click the Add/Remove Programs Icon.
In the Add/Remove Programs Properties window click the Windows Setup tab.
In the Components field, scroll down until you find the Multimedia icon and double click it.
In the Multimedia window place a check mark in front of the CD player Icon by clicking it and press the OK button to confirm, and leave this screen.
When back in Add/Remove Programs Properties window press the Apply button. The system will now update the installed components.
Restart the computer by selecting Start/ Shutdown/ Restart.

3- LAST RESORT SOLUTION - SOME CD "MAKING" OR "BURNING" SOFTWARE STOPS WINDOWS FROM RECOGNIZING "AUTORUN", EVEN THOUGH THE CDROM UNIT HAS BEEN SET UP TO WORK WITH AUTORUN (CHECK MARK IS "ON" IN "EASIEST SOLUTION" ABOVE)
If the above does not work- check your computer for any "CD burner" (CD-RW) software that may be running or installed. Sometimes this software conflicts with the Windows environment and does not allow Windows to recognize the "autorun.inf" file on the CD. This situation has been encountered by myself while running Adaptec CD Burning Software. You should follow the "add/remove" programs procedure outlined above in order to "un-install" this software, then restart your computer. BEFORE UNINSTALLING- MAKE SURE that you have the original software program (likely it's on a CD that came with the software/computer, that you originally purchased). Now try to load a CD that you know autostarts (use the Click-n-Shoot CD if you wish). The CD should now "autostart". Now, use the CD that you MADE SURE you had to re-install the program (CD burner/Adaptec/other) you just removed. Restart your computer after re-installing the CD Burner/Adaptec/other software. Now, check again to see if an autostart CD will open on it's own.

4- VERY LAST RESORT SOLUTION - YOU CAN STILL PLAY THE CD BY MANUALLY LOADING IT!
If the CD still fails to start automatically, follow these steps:
A- double click on "my computer"
B- double click on the CD icon titled "Click-n-Shoot"
C- find the file titled "index.htm" or "index" and double click it

What equipment do I need to run the CD?

Click-n-Shoot® Technical & Help Information

Details of computer/software needs:
No special computer is needed- but you MUST have a CD-ROM slot (tray) in your computer

Pentium processors will work faster BUT almost any computer will work

The targets will print with the following operating systems: Windows 95/98/2000/ME

You will need installed on your computer - Adobe Acrobat Reader® version 4.0 or newer (Reader is included free on the Click-n-Shoot® CDROM) in order to view and print the actual target files

You will need an installed "browser" to use the CD properly as the CD operates using one (just like our web site). Don't worry - if you are "on the Internet" you're already over this hump. If you already "surf the net", then you HAVE a browser and are already using it every time you are on the WWW.

Any printer that is either a bubble jet, laser, laser jet or ink jet type will work (the better the printer the nicer the targets!)

You will need white paper for the printer and, of course, ink in your printer!

Back to top of page

I don't have a "Browser" installed on my machine!

It is likely that you DO have an internet browser on your computer. It may never have been launched or configured but it's probably there. To find out:

Click "Start" (lower left of your computer screen) > Programs> and look for the blue "E" with a swirl around it. Can't find the "E"? Look for the words "Internet Explorer"

Still no luck?

Go to ANY Circuit City, Best Buy or Comp USA retail outlet and they will likely have a FREE copy of a CD that has an internet browser on it!

When I click on a Target picture, some "other" program opens- and it 's not Adobe Acrobat Reader®!

This is likely due to the fact that at one time or another SOMEONE associated the wrong software with the Adobe "PDF" file extension- not to worry, you can fix it!

Here is how to "re-associate" the PDF files if clicking one does NOT launch
Adobe Acrobat Reader - these instruction are for a Windows ME system BUT are very similar to 95, 98 and 2000 systems:
1-Go to your desktop and double click "My Computer"
2-Choose "Tools" from the top menu bar, followed by "Folder Options"
3-Choose "File Types" from the tab at the top
4-Type the letter "P" and the window should scroll down to the first file
type that begins with "P"
5-Scroll down using the "Up-Down" arrows in the "Folder Options" window
until you find the letters "PDF" under the extensions column
6-Look to the right of the letters "PDF" - if it says Adobe Acrobat Document or Adobe PDF
STOP RIGHT HERE (this means
it is associated properly)
7-If it says anything else CONTINUE
8-Click ONCE on the "PDF" extension icon
9-Click on the "Advanced" tab at the bottom of the "Folder Options" window
10-Highlight the word "Open" in the middle of the "Edit File Type" window by
clicking ONCE
11-Click "Edit" (tab on the right)
12-In the newly opened "Editing action for type: . . . " window, click
within the "Application to perform action" area and delete the contents
13-In the same are (application to perform action) type in the following:
"C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 4.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe" (without the
quotes)
14-Immediately below this check the box marked "Use DDE"
15-Enter the following into "DDE message:" "[FileOpenEx("%1")]" (without the
quotes)
16-Enter the following into "Application": "Acroview" (without the quotes)
17-Leave "DDE Not running" blank
18-Enter the following under "topic": "Control" (without the quotes)
19-Repeat steps #10-18 for the "Print & "Printto" items within the "Edit
File Type" window with the following exceptions:
Step#15 for "Print" = "[FilePrintSilentEx("%1")]" (without the quotes)
Step#15 for "Printto" = "[FilePrintToEx("%1" "%2" "%3" "%4")]" (without the
quotes)
VERY IMPORTANT
20- Click "OK" within the "Edit File Type" window
21- Click "Apply" followed by "OK" within the "Folder Options Window"
Reboot your computer and try again to open an Adobe file (NOT a Word file)

Microsoft Internet Explorer - Configuring Adobe as a "helper app" OR "plug-in"

When accessing PDF files on the Click-n-Shoot CD, you have two options: opening the PDF file within the browser window, or opening the PDF file in Acrobat Reader® as a separate application. The following instructions will help you configure Microsoft Internet Explorer® to use Adobe Acrobat Reader® as a "plug-in" or a "helper application"

Configuring Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.x and 5.x to use Adobe Acrobat Reader as a . . .

PLUG IN

You can configure Internet Explorer for Windows to use Acrobat Reader as a browser plug-in or as a helper application. You will likely want it to be used as a plug in. When Reader is configured as a plug-in, the PDF file displays within the browser window. When Reader is configured as a helper application, the PDF file displays in a separate Reader window.

Configuring Internet Explorer 4.x and 5.x to use the Acrobat Reader plug-in
Acrobat Reader's default configuration for Internet Explorer uses ActiveX controls to open a PDF within the browser window. The Acrobat Reader installer automatically installs plug-in files (Pdf.ocx, Pdf41.ocx, or Pdf42.ocx, and Pdf.tlb) to the Reader\ActiveX directory when you install Acrobat Reader. Clicking a PDF file link in a Web page opens the file in an Acrobat Reader window within Internet Explorer's browser window. All the toolbars and controls available in Reader as a stand-alone application are available when using the browser plug-in.

Configuring Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.x and 5.x to use Acrobat Reader as a . . .

HELPER APPLICATION
If you don't want PDFs to open in your browser window, you can set up Reader as a helper application. When you use this configuration and click a PDF file link in a Web page, Internet Explorer opens Acrobat Reader as a separate application where you view the PDF.

To configure Internet Explorer to use Reader 4.0x as a helper application:

1. Exit from Internet Explorer.

2. Start Acrobat Reader 4.0x.

3. In Acrobat Reader, choose File > Preferences > General

4. Deselect Web Browser Integration in the Options area of the General Preferences dialog box

5. Click OK, and then exit from the Acrobat Reader.

6. Restart Internet Explorer.

The next time you select a link to a PDF file in internet Explorer, a File Download dialog box will prompt you to specify what to do with the file:

If you select "Open this file from its current location," Internet Explorer opens the PDF file in Acrobat Reader as a helper application. If you select "Save this file to disk," Internet Explorer saves the PDF file to your hard disk, where you can open it later.

Note: If you deselect "Always ask before opening this type of file," Internet Explorer will default thereafter to the last option selected. If "Always ask before opening this type of file" remains selected, you will continue to get the prompt.

Once Reader is set up as a helper application, you can switch between using Reader as a helper application and using the browser plug-in by selecting and deselecting Web Browser Integration in the Options area of the General Preferences dialog box in Acrobat Reader.

When you click on a PDF link in Internet Explorer 4.x, the browser will start Acrobat Reader in a separate window to display PDF files.

Netscape NavigatorTM - Configuring Adobe as a "helper app" OR "plug-in"

When accessing PDF files on the Click-n-Shoot CD, you have two options: opening the PDF file within the browser window, or opening the PDF file in Acrobat Reader® as a separate application. The following instructions will help you configure Netscape Navigator™ to use Adobe Acrobat Reader as a "plug-in" or a "helper application"

Configuring Netscape 4.x to use Adobe Acrobat Reader as a . . .

PLUG IN

Netscape Navigator can be configured to use Adobe Acrobat as either a browser plug-in or as a helper application. You will likely want it to be used as a plug in. When Reader is configured as a plug-in, the PDF file displays within the browser window. When Reader is configured as a helper application, the PDF file displays in a separate Reader window.

Configuring Netscape 4.x to use the Acrobat Reader plug-in
The Acrobat Reader installer configures Reader as a browser plug-in by default. When you install Acrobat Reader, the installer places the nppdf32.dll plug-in in Netscape's plug-ins folder at:

c:\Program Files\Netscape\Communicator\Program\Plugins

No other action is needed. After restarting Netscape, clicking a PDF file link in a Web page opens the file in an Acrobat Reader window within Netscape's browser window. All the toolbars and controls available in Reader as a stand-alone application are available when using the browser plug-in.

Configuring Netscape 4.x to use Acrobat Reader as a . . .

HELPER APPLICATION

If you don't want PDFs to open in your browser window, you can set up Reader as a helper application. When you use this configuration and click a PDF file link in a Web page, Netscape opens Acrobat Reader as a separate application where you view the PDF. To configure Netscape to use Acrobat Reader as a helper application:

1. In Netscape, choose Edit > Preferences to display the Preferences dialog box.

2. Select Applications in the Navigator category of the Category list

3. Click New Type.

4. In the New Type dialog box, do the following

a. Type Portable Document Format in the Description of Type text box.

b. Type pdf in the File Extension text box.

c. Type application/pdf in the MIME Type text box.

d. Click Browse, locate and select the Acrobat Reader application file, and then click Open. The path to the Acrobat Reader application file displays in Application to Use text box.

5. Click OK to close the New Type dialog box, and then click OK to close the Preferences dialog box.

6. Restart Navigator.

Once Reader is set up as a helper application, you can switch between using Reader as a helper application and using the browser plug-in by selecting and deselecting Web Browser Integration in the Options area of the General Preferences dialog box in Acrobat Reader.
